Alice and Ray Horn were married on January 24, 1947 at the First Christian Church in Council Bluffs. They made their home on the Harvey and Mae Schoening farm southwest of Silver City, Iowa and were in partnership with the Schoenings for ten years. During this time, their marriage was blessed with daughter Carole Ann and son Robert Frank. The family moved to the Buffington farm south of Malvern, Iowa in December of 1958, and for fifteen years, Ray and Alice were in partnership with Laurence and Prudence Buffington. Their marriage was again blessed with a third child, Roberta Faye. In 1970, the farm sold and Ray and Alice purchased 80 acres, and moved to live on their own farm southwest of Malvern. Ray raised calves and worked for Mills County (John Deere) Equipment in Malvern, until his retirement in 1983.

Alice enjoyed being a homemaker and mother. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Farm Bureau and AARP. Alice enjoyed reading and sewing but she especially enjoyed taking care of her flower and vegetable gardens, canning and drying vegetables for her family's needs.

Alice and Ray had been married 55 years, when Ray died at their home on August 1, 2002. Alice continued to make her home on their farm. She moved to live in La Vista, Nebraska in April 2012.

Roberta Horn wrote on Oct 10, 2018:

"I would like to honor my wonderful mother for all the love that she shared with me. I could always count on her when I needed her. She often gave to us and did without for herself. Her advice was sound, and kind. When she corrected you it wasn't done in anger but with gentle love that made know that what you had done wasn't nice and you should change your ways. She taught me so many lessons that have and will continue to serve me thru out my life. I am very blessed to have such a wonderful woman whom gave life to me. I'd like to believe that see can see again so she can read and see all her favorite things like flowers and all the beautiful colors. "
