Betty J. Taylor Strong
November 6, 1921 - April 9, 2014

Betty J. Taylor Strong, 92 of Des Moines, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston with her loving family by her side. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. at the West Des Moines Christian Church. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the Church with Pastor Randy Ehrhardt officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.



Betty Jean was born in Des Moines on November 6, 1921 to Kenneth and Lavada (Miller) Coon. She attended school in Des Moines and graduated from North High School in 1940. Shortly after school she married Thomas S. Taylor June 22, 1940. To this union 3 children were born. The family resided in Des Moines where they raised their children together. After losing Thomas, Betty eventually met another special man in her life and then married Billy V. Strong on June13,1998. She worked for 35 years as a typesetter for Water and Soil Conservation Society and retired in 1993. Betty was a member of the West Des Moines Christian Church and Eastern Star Waveland Park Lodge. She had a great love for her family and enjoyed spending time with them, most especially her grandkids. Betty also enjoyed reading and was an avid fisherman.



Those left to cherish Bettys loving memories are her children, Sharon (Tom) Smith of Graham, Texas, and Judy (Dave) Kapolka, of Eldridge, Iowa; step-children, Linda (Arnold) McCoy, and Donald (Jean) Strong; David (Chris) Oliver; 10 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 6 step great-grandchildren; brother Donald (Carla) Coon of West Des Moines, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, and loving friends.



Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son Thomas S. Taylor II; and sister Marjorie Earp.
