Joan E. Mueller
October 13, 1930 - October 24, 2018

Joan E. Mueller, 88, passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at the Algona Manor Care Center.

Joan was born in Fenton, Iowa on October 13, 1930 to the late Norman and Esther (Christian) Finnestad. She was preceded in death by her husband Ferdinand Mueller, brother, Duane Finnestad and sister, Delores Boettcher.

On August 7, 1949, Joan and Ferd were united in marriage soon after he was discharged from the United States Navy. They farmed in the Seneca and Fenton area before moving to Council Bluffs, Algona then Ft. Dodge where he worked for the United States Postal Service. They eventually retired to Florida where they lived for many years.

Joan was an avid bowler and won numerous awards. She loved sports, especially the Minnesota Vikings football, Minnesota Twins baseball, University of Iowa Hawkeyes and while living in Florida a big Tampa Bay Rays baseball fan. Over the years she was involved in many community and charitable organizations and was especially active in the Women's VFW Auxiliary and her church. Joan was a loving mother to her four children and a true friend to many. Survivors include four children, daughter Lynda (Dennis/Max) Miller of Coralville, Iowa; son Dr. Steven (Nancy) Mueller of Algona; son Lance (Kathy) Mueller of Hayden Lake, Idaho and son Dr. Shawn (Mariela) Mueller of Fort Myers, Florida. Ten grandchildren, Amy (Bo) Brown, Joshua (Missy) Miller, Lindsey (Chad) Devine, Kyle (Lisa) Mueller, Jess Mueller, Karla (Ryan) Hayes, Brian Mueller, Ashley Mueller, Katie (David) Robinson, Blake Mueller, and twelve great grandchildren. Also surviving, her sister Marilyn Neary of Emmetsburg, Iowa, brother, Craig Finnestad of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, sister-in-law, Viola Doehla of Coralville, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at 9:30 Monday, November 5, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona. The funeral service will be at 11:00 with lunch to follow. Burial will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Fenton, Iowa.
