Janice Carol "Penny" Axton
April 13, 1948 - October 26, 2018

Janice C. "Penny" Axton, 70, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018, at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport, Iowa.

A private graveside service and burial will be held at the Pence Cemetery, rural Baldwin, Iowa. There is no public visitation. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.

Jancie Carol Axton was born on April 13, 1948 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Ira and Carolyn (Clark) Chase. She was a graduate of Maquoketa High School and then moved to California where she worked for LA Lamps and later for Hanes in the returns department.

She married Wayne Luther Axton on December 24, 1974 in Artesia, California, and resided there until his passing when she returned home to Jackson County.

Janice enjoyed fishing with her mom, crocheting, knitting, reading and cooking. She especially enjoyed baking homemade bread and watching cooking shows on television.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Carolyn Jeannie Swift of Baldwin, IA, and Eva (Jack) Jones of Locust Grove, GA; 2 grandchildren, Alyssa McCarley and Matthew McCarley; a sister, Linda Arnold of Baldwin, IA; and brothers, Ira (Janet) Chase of Oxford Junction, IA, and Everett (Kathryn) Chase of Oxford Junction, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Franklin and Craig "Rocky" Chase.

"I don't think I have seen Janice since we graduated from high school here in Maquoketa. Janice was very quiet in school, but we would visit in the lounge sometimes. I hope she had a happy life and with you children I am sure she did. Life is a gift here on Earth. So sorry for your loss."
