Darrald Lee Carr, 71, of Maquoketa, passed away Oct. 27, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque after suffering a cardiac arrest a few days earlier.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at Carson Celebration of Life Center, Maquoketa. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at United Church of Christ Church, Maquoketa. Burial will be at a later date at Sutton Cemetery.
Darrald was born Aug. 21, 1947, to Dillon and Lynne Opal (Wagner) Carr. He attended rural schools, then Maquoketa Community School, graduating in 1967.
He lived almost all his life in Fulton, a few miles north of Maquoketa.
Darrald was very proud to have worked 41 years as a meat cutter in the Fareway Meat Department in Maquoketa. He retired in 2007.
He was a 59-year-old bachelor when he met and married Geni (Lister) Niess 7-7-07. He became an immediate grandpa.
Darrald enjoyed fishing, golfing, boating and snowmobiling. After retiring, he met friends and family daily at McDonald's.
He also loved sitting "down under" for his backyard view of the squirrels, cows and highway traffic.
Darrald is survived by his wife Geni and her daughters Jamie (Erik) Kotewa of Lewistown, Ill., Monica (Brandon) VanDeWalle of Madison, Wis., and Allison (Tony) Bock of Baldwin, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Mallory, Casey, Declan, Chamberly, Sofia, Connor, Coral and Marisol; siblings Patsy Krantz, Barbara Watters and Gerald Carr, all of Maquoketa; sisters-in-law, Deanna (Steve) Stott of Omaha, NE, Julie (Mike) Gansemer of Dubuque, IA, and Wendy (Chris) Black of St. Charles, MO; mother-in-law, Shirley Lister of Osage, IA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, Donald Krantz, Allan Watters and Deanna Carr.
Through the gift of tissue donation, Darrald will continue to help others.
