"Dear Jane, On Veterans' Day, I am remembering my Marine brother, Myrl Scheckel. I know that you are especially recalling beautiful memories of your Army/Marine Uncle David, the tank commander in Korea, and the adviser in Vietnam, nicknamed The Preacher, summoning his fellow warriors to prayer and worship. You spoke of touring the Freedom Center with him, enjoying a free breakfast served by the Boy Scouts and the Hy Vee staff. How proudly he wore his Marine cap and special ring! His Valor Quilt, stitched by your friend, said it all. Your Uncle David is resting now "in the Land of the free and the Home of the brave": semper fidelis! Love you, Nora Scheckel Conner"

"Dear Jane, We are sending our thoughts and prayers of healing to you as you celebrate your Uncle Davids's Homegoing. The constant care you gave him, the peace of having you as a next door neighbor for 3 and one half years, raising chickens, planting and harvesting, the joy and companionship of pets, meeting new neighbors, and the weekly visits of Pastor Larry gave your Uncle quality of life. What a blessing: your unconditional love! I am thanking you for and with him. Take care and God bless! Love you. Joe and Nora Scheckel Conner"

"To the Miller family, my heartfelt prayers are with you in your time of sorrow. For Jane especially, remember the good times...you had 31/2 years with your uncle, caring for him so that he could stay in a home for as long as he was able. He wasn't good at expressing himself but i am sure he appreciated you extending andraising the quality of his life by bringing him to Dubuque. The joy he experienced at his last birthday celebration was indicative of the kind of man he wanted to be. God bless, David. The risen and ascended Christ will give comfort. Tana R. Jones"
