In loving memory of

Janis Marie Miller
October 13, 1933 - November 3, 2018

Janis Marie Miller, 85, of Allison, Iowa, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Rehabilitation Center in Allison.

Janis was born on October 13, 1933, at home in Floyd County Township, Iowa, to Donald and Thelma (Fisher) Allan.  She graduated from Allison High School, class Valedictorian, and was united in marriage to LeRoy Eugene Miller on July 17, 1953 in Allison. Janis and LeRoy had 7 children whom they raised with all the love and learning they knew. Over time their large family grew even larger to include in-laws, grandchildren, great grandchildren and even several four-legged members. Holidays surrounded by all their loved-ones represented everything they had accomplished.

Janis and LeRoy also started and operated Miller Construction & Building Supplies where Janis enjoyed working with her family and customers. Her work ethic and devotion to the business were obvious to everyone around her as well as the surrounding community. Janis was also a long term member of St. James Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. On top of that she donated her time and attention to women who needed rides to church or even to the grocery store. She was a great listener, had a huge heart and more than anything, had a very comforting way about her.

Janis played as hard as she worked. She loved to perform with her accordion and could cut a mean rug at jam sessions both in Iowa and in Texas, where her and LeRoy wintered. Dancing brought a smile to her face and surrounded her with people. In addition to music, she also enjoyed sewing and baking. She always gave to those around her. Her grandchildren often reaped the rewards of her work in both amazing Sunday desserts and matching ensembles.

Janis revered her husband and cared for him for several years before his death in 1998. Afterwards she continued to keep herself busy traveling to Texas, attending church and playing music up until she moved to Parker Place in Parkersburg, Iowa. She was an amazing, nice, wonderful, kind, special lady that worked hard and always had a beautiful smile on her face. She will be dearly missed by too many to count.

Janis is survived by her children Randy (Di) Miller of Clarksville, Rick (Marlene) Miller of Ankeny, Russell (Glenda) Miller of Allison, Brenda (John Arntson) Miller of Cedar Falls, Ted (Terry Endelman) Miller of Allison, and Tod (Sandi) Miller of Parkersburg, daughter-in-law Tammy Miller of Dysart, grandchildren Laci (Seth) McEnany, Jon (Lynn) McCue, Jamie (Pete) Mottet, Kyle (Libby) Frey, Emily (Brock) Weers, Erin Miller, Jessica (Chad) Toneff, Justin (Nikki) Miller, Mandi (Andy) Cornstuble, Kali (Shawn) DeBoer, Allie (Jake) Hartz, Ty (Camie Crawford) Miller, Jacob Miller, Jordan Miller, Abigail Miller, Michelle (Travis) Renken and Ethan (Allysa) Miller, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, sister Marlys Miller of Allison, brother Harold (Judy) Allan of Manning, South Carolina, sister Shirley Derr of Maynard, along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Thelma, husband LeRoy and son Mark.
