William R. Kuhn
November 2, 1931 - November 3, 2018

A funeral service for William "BIll" Kuhn will be held Wednesday at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Algona. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Algona American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona.

William Richard Kuhn was born November 2, 1931, near Burt, son of William C. and Vivian (Jergenson) Kuhn. He attended country school in Plum Creek and then also Des Moines North High School. Bill helped his dad farm prior to serving his country in the United States Army stationed with the 194th Field Artillery Group being honorably discharged in 1950.

Bill was married to Phyllis Richardson on May 1, 1953, at First Baptist Church in Algona. Bill drove school bus for 50 years for the Algona School district prior to his retirement. Through the years he also served as the district manager for the Des Moines Register for 14 years, he was the custodian for the Kossuth County Fair Grounds for over 25 years, and he farmed and did seed corn trucking for Pioneer.

Bill enjoyed playing cards, collecting antiques, and square dancing. He was a lifetime member of the Algona VFW Post # 2541, and a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Algona. In April, 2017, he became a resident of the Titonka Care Center and died there on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the age of 87.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis of Algona; six children and fifteen grandchildren, Rick Kuhn of Algona and his children Jordan and Zach; Cindy (Larry) Kutzner of Ankeny and children Kevin, Erin, and Caitlin; Pam Rahm of Algona and children Charles, Jake, and Amy; Bill (Renea) Kuhn of Council Bluffs and children Jenni, Will, and Brookanne, and Taylor; Kay (Merril) Friedrich of Algona and children Ben and Betsy; and Vickie (Joel) Mangold of Des Moines and son Joel. He is also survived by 24 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn Garman of Algona; a brother-in-law, Dave (Judy) Richardson of Boone; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Vaughn Gary Kuhn in infancy; and two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Garman and James Richardson.
