"Kevin & Family, We are so sorry to hear of the loss of your Mother. We send you our deepest sympathy. Randy & Irene Fish"
Gloria Phyllis Crenshaw, 92, passed away November 4, 2018, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, surrounded by her family. She was born August, 8, 1926, in Surfer's Paradise, Queensland, Australia to Thomas and Myrtle Burrows. The youngest of three, she and her brothers grew up in the "Land Down Under". It was there that she met Tech Sergeant Quinby E. Crenshaw of Alexandria, MO, who was stationed in New Guinea and Australia during World War II. They were united in marriage in August, 1945 - shortly before VJ Day.
After the war, they moved to the States and made their home in Keokuk, Iowa, eventually restoring "Port Sunshine" to its former glory. They raised three children: Dr. Neville (Becky) Crenshaw, Kevin (Joni) Crenshaw, and Glory (Jim Smith) Crenshaw. She was preceded in death by her husband, Quinby in 1969, and her parents and brothers.
Gloria was employed at Hoerner-Waldorf in Keokuk from 1966 to 1989. She enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, caring for her ante-bellum home, reading, spending time with her family and her dog - Molly. She loved telling stories about Australia and the "good old days", and she always had room for more chocolate.
She was grandmother to six: Neville "Quinn" Crenshaw of St. Louis, MO, Thomas (Carissa) Crenshaw of Keokuk, IA, Colin Crenshaw of Galesburg, IL, Bailey (Joe) Crenshaw Donahue of Peoria, IL, Daniel (Sadie) Crenshaw of Montrose, IA and Klara Smith of Breckenridge, CO.
She had recently been promoted to great grandmother to two, soon to be three, boys who were a new source of delight and joy in her long life - Warren Crenshaw and Conor Donahue. She was eagerly anticipating the arrival of her third great grandson later this month.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 2 PM at Keokuk National Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Keokuk Animal Shelter, 249 Carbide Lane, Keokuk, IA.
