In loving memory of

Harold James Staner Sr.
December 1, 1944 - November 15, 2018

Harold James Staner Sr., 73, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.

A celebration of Harold's life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Monday, November 19, 2018, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Buckhorn Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, Iowa, with military honors.

Harold James Staner Sr. was born on December 1, 1944 in Monticello, Iowa, to Raymond Henry and Ardella Bernice (Koch) Staner. He was a graduate of Maquoketa High School and then entered the U.S. Army earning an honorable discharge. He married Lois LaRae Merrick April 1, 1967 in Maquoketa, Iowa.

Upon returning home from his military service, Harold began a 34 year career working at Alcoa Davenport Works. In retirement, he worked for Pacific Coast Feather Company in Maquoketa for several years.

Harold was a member of the First Baptist Church, Oxford Junction American Legion, and was a lifetime member of the Maquoketa VFW Post #3633 O'Connor-Regenwether. Additionally, he was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Club in Maquoketa serving as a past president and vice president. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing, especially for Catfish.

Those left to honor Harold's memory include his wife, Lois Staner of Maquoketa, IA; children, Veronica Barten of Maquoketa, IA, Jamie (Patty) Staner of Monmouth, IA, and Christine (Brian) Benhart of DeWitt, IA; a sister, Mary (Bill) Uppena of Potosi, WI; 10 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 2 special adopted grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Raymond Jr. and John Staner, a son Gregory Staner, and a son-in-law Scott Barten.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Harold James Staner Sr. memorial fund has been established.
