Myrna M. Olson
March 6, 1933 - November 16, 2018

Myrna M. Olson, 85, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Friday evening, November 16, 2018, at Unity Point Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa.

A public graveside service and burial celebrating Myrna's life will be held at 2:30 P.M., Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11 A.M. to 2 P.M., Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.

Myrna M. Petersen was born on March 6, 1933 in Monmouth, Iowa, to Ray and Helen (Kreite) Petersen. She was a graduate of Monmouth High School and then received nurses training at St. Lukes Nursing School in Cedar Rapids. She married Buddy Allen Olson on November 2, 1957 in Maquoketa, Iowa. To this union two sons were born, David and Jay.

Upon graduating from nurses training, Myrna became a registered nurse first working in Independence, Iowa, then San Francisco, California, and after her marriage to Buddy, for many years at the Jackson County Public Hospital in Maquoketa. She had also co-owned and operated Olson Security, Inc. in Maquoketa for 25 years retiring in 2007.

Myrna was an active volunteer with many organizations and been involved with the Peace Pipe Players in Maquoketa participating in several plays. She also had been a member of First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, visiting casinos, scratch off lottery tickets, and going for rides in the country.

Those left to honor Myrna's memory include her sons, David (Karla) Olson of Maquoketa, IA, and Jay (and special friend Audrey Potter) Olson of Maquoketa, IA; 2 grandchildren, Jenna Olson of Maquoketa, IA, and Jessica (William "Brady" Randall) Olson of Ann Arbor, MI; 1 step-grandchild, Kenny (Amanda) Schmidt of Preston, IA; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, James "Jim" and Bonnie Olson of GA, Shirley Olson of Maquoketa, IA, and Shirley Gartman of Maquoketa, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Buddy on November 27, 2012, and a sister Dee (Warren) Keenan.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Myrna M. Olson memorial fund has been established.
