In loving memory of

Lois Stock
October 18, 1929 - November 17, 2018

Lois L. Stock, 89, of Dumont, Iowa passed away, November 17, 2018, at the Dumont Wellness Center in Dumont, Iowa. She was born October 18, 1929, in rural Butler County, northwest of Dumont, to parents Georgia (Lumley) and Earl W. Harlan. Lois was the youngest of four children: (Lilah B., Neil E., Marvin L., and Lois L.).

Lois was 5 days old when her mother passed away and Lois was gladly taken in and raised her by her Aunt Lula J. Harlan, a schoolteacher, along with her grandfather, Walter L. Harlan Sr., who farmed north of Dumont, Iowa. They were always known as "Mom" and "Grandpa". Lois had a close relationship with them calling her Aunt, "Mom" and Walter, "Grandpa."

Lois attended Dumont High School and graduated with the class of 1947. In 1962, she married Francis L. Stock at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. Together they bought and moved onto an acreage where they raised Beefalo cattle and Pinto horses. Their horses were famous all over the United States and Canada for their beauty and earned many ribbons and trophies. Both Lois and Francis continued working at their respective occupations with Lois working at Maytag for 32 years until she retired.

Frances and Lois later moved to Dumont, where they made their home. They enjoyed traveling and occasionally attending horse shows in the area. Lois served as President of the Harlan Cemetery Association for many years along with Francis and Brian Harlan. Together they worked to keep Harlan Cemetery looking nice, making numerous improvements and overseeing and caring for the cemetery. She was also a member of the American Legion in Dumont.

Lois lost Francis on May 5, 2001. Even though they didn't have any children, Lois enjoyed attending family events. She enjoyed reading; her favorite author being Zane Grey. Lois was also on a bowling league, made quilts; doing all the stitching herself and loved dancing.

She leaves behind two stepsons, Rodney Stock (Pennsylvania) and Ronald Stock (Ohio), three step granddaughters, as well as 10 step great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends. She will be greatly missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents Georgia (Lumley) Harlan and Earl W. Harlan, Lula J. Harlan and Walter Harlan Sr., husband Francis, sister Lilah Vought, and two brothers Neil Harlan and Marvin Harlan.
