Irene L. Walsh
October 17, 1932 - November 19, 2018

Mrs. Irene L. Walsh, 86, of West Des Moines and formerly Woodward and Danville, died Monday, November 19, 2018 in West Des Moines. She was born October 17, 1932 in Wilke, Iowa to Morris Mandival and Margaret Irene Doyle Wood. In 1954 she married Robert Gene Walsh at St. John's Catholic Church in Des Moines; he died February 23, 1985.
She graduated from Danville High School as Valedictorian and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi in Des Moines. She began her career at Thriftway Food Store in Des Moines, worked at Woodward State Hospital School in Woodward and retired from IAAP in Middletown. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, watching soap operas, shopping, swimming, fishing, going to see Christmas lights, and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Walsh is survived by one son, Robert Kim (Paula) Walsh, Perry, IA; four daughters, Suzanne Walsh, Minburn, IA, Cynthia (Rudy) Hernandez, Chandler, AZ, Kristen (James) Rolston, Perry, IA, and Nancy (Howard) Holtkamp, West Point; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Wagler, Bettendorf and Shirley (Gordon) Langham, Ragley, LA; one brother, Roger (Susan) Wood, Waimea, Hawaii; nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Mickey Wood and two sisters, Pamela Noe' and Patricia Hillgartner.
The family will receive friends Monday morning from 9 - 10:00 at Elliott Chapel, New London. There will be a rosary service at 10:00 followed by a funeral service with Father Paul Connolly officiating. Burial will be at Jaggar Cemetery, Danville. A memorial has been established for American Diabetes Association.
