"Callahan's, Roger and Mary, his sons, and his siblings you have my deepest sympathy in the loss of Jim. When we were neighbors in the West End we had many great times playing in the alley between our houses. As a classmate throughout the years Jim was a big personality in our class and provided his classmates with so many good memories especially his laugh. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and may the happy times you had with Jim bring you comfort in the days ahead when you think of Jim. Rest in peace classmate of '76. Bet Jim and Mr. Tunestra are having a great reunion."

"Roger, Mary and family: I'm so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I, like others, have many great memories of Jim throughout our high school years -- the wrestling and football in particular. But Jim was also my "partner" when we had to take square dancing for PE -- yep, that was a hoot -- and he walked me down the aisle for our class graduation. Hoping the many wonderful members of Jim can help relieve some of the sadness of his loss. Diana Lind Baratta "

Steve Patterson wrote on Nov 24, 2018:

" Dear Roger, Mary and the entire Callahan family. Our deepest, heartfelt sympathies on Jim?s passing. Words cannot sum up all that Jim was to our Class, 1976. Jovial most of the time he shifted into high gear during athletic events, then the committed serious side of Jim surfaced, he instincts were that of a natural champion and those moments he proudly carried with him throughout life. I knew him as a best friend and as fellow Tri-Captain with Rick Earles during our senior year at Colfax on the football team. We won more games in 1975, having the first winning season and setting the tone for those who followed in the seventies. We were not exactly angels; however, we did our share of good deeds. After graduation, while in college it became my responsibility to care for my future in-law's farm. ?Muttley? and Rick showed up with a big truck and snow plow, assisting me in watering and feeding the stock. Always in my heart, ?Muttely? Rick and I all married and went our separate ways. Throughout the years we would see who could tell the best stories at class reunion time. Willow, myself and the rest of the 1976 Bicentennial Class at Colfax, will certainly remember ?Muttley?!!!!!! Steven P. Patterson"

Judy Callahan BVM wrote on Nov 24, 2018:

"When Jim entered the gates of heaven, he must have been swept up. I believe that what God looks for is love in a person's heart, and his great big heart was chock full of love. He loved his family, the beauties of nature, and in utter simplicity, all that surrounded him. He never missed a family reunion, and continued to promote them after they stopped coming regularly. He truly loved... and is loved, and will be missed. What a blessing he has been to our big family! Judy Callahan BVM"

Laureen Lukehart wrote on Nov 23, 2018:

"I am so sorry to hear this sad news. The weekend after Thanksgiving in 1978 we had a blizzard. I went into labor that Sunday evening after dark. The roads were not being plowed it was so bad. We worried we not make it safely to Lutheran in DSM. Tony called up Jim and he followed us from home all the way to the parking lot with his truck in case our car couldn't make it. It was a great comfort knowing he had our back during this emotional trip. Our daughter Nichole Hodgson was born about 5 hours later safe and sound. Jim was a good ole boy with a heart of gold. My condolences to his family at this difficult time. Laurie Parks Lukehart"
