William "Bill" Krueger
December 14, 1936 - November 25, 2018

William "Bill" Carl Krueger, 81, of Baxter, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at Mary Greeley Hospital. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 30, 2018 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Bethany United Church of Christ in Baxter. His funeral will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethany United Church of Christ with Pastor Paul Johnson and Craig Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethany Cemetery in Baxter, Iowa.
Bill was born to Bernhard and Viola (Kanne) Krueger in Newton on December 14, 1936. He was raised in Baxter where he attended Baxter High School. Bill played 6-man football for Baxter and graduated with the class of 1955. Following school, he attended Central College before joining the Army. Bill served our country honorably and following his duty in the service returned to Baxter where he joined the family farm east of Baxter. He married Alice "Joanne" Wallace in 1959. The couple farmed together and raised their family near Baxter. Over the years, Bill also worked with many different companies as a delivery driver. Bill coached his sons' baseball teams through junior high. He was a member of the Baxter Lion's Club and Bethany United Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon. Bill was an avid sports enthusiast and loved to watch his kids and grandkids play in all of their various activities. He also loved watching the Iowa State Cyclones, the Chicago Cubs, Drake University, CMB, Baxter Bolts; playing cards, cribbage, bridge games, bowling; and in his younger years being a referee for youth baseball and basketball games. Bill had never met a stranger and loved to visit with old friends and meet new friends.
Those left to cherish Bill's loving memory are the mother of his children and close friend Joanne VerHuel of Ankeny, IA; children Neal (Avis) Krueger of Urbandale, IA, Kent (Terri) Krueger of Ankeny, IA, and Alicia (Steven) Peterson of Baxter, IA; grandchildren Chris (Alyssa) Sundell, Jonathan Krueger, Jeffrey (Hillary) Krueger, John Mistretta, Justin Mistretta, Chuck (Mandy) Peterson, Wendy (Rusty) Miller, Zeah (Eric) DeBolt, Brittany Peterson; great-grandchildren Grant Sundell, Addilyn Larsen, Doug and Emily Peterson, Mackenzie Howey, Tatum and Bristol Miller, and Sutton Schwartz; many nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dean and Edgar Krueger, sister Ruth Miller, and nephew Randy Krueger.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Bethany United Church of Christ or Baxter Bolts Athletics Association.
In memory of Bill the family request you wear your favorite sports team attire for his visitation.
