Kris Buchanan
December 27, 1963 - November 25, 2018

Funeral services for Kristi "Kris" Buchanan age 54, of Algona will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, November 30, 2018 at Grace Church in Algona. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 29, 2018 Grace Church in Algona.

Kristi Ann (Riebhoff) Buchanan was born December 27, 1963 in Algona, Iowa to Don Riebhoff and Anne Russell. Kris grew up in Algona and graduated from Algona High School in 1982. She later moved to Des Moines where she worked her way up from secretary to bookkeeper for the Master Builders of Iowa.

While she was in Des Moines, Kris met and later married Todd Buchanan. She and Todd moved back to their hometown of Algona where she began working with her family at Cellular Dimensions as the bookkeeper. They had three children: Nick, Jeff and Chloe, and later separated but remained friends.

Kris was most passionate about her faith and her kids. She lived her life on the foundation of her faith. In all of her hardest times, she was reading her bible and praying constantly. In all other times, she was spreading joy and love to everyone around her.

Ever since her first son was born, Kris considered herself, above all else, a mother. She devoted herself to all of her children's activities from preschool to their college and adult lives. No matter how much or how little it was, Kris always gave her children the very best of what she had.

Kris passed away at the age of 54 on Sunday, November 25, 2018 after an 18 month battle with cancer.

Kris is survived by her children, Nick (Sierra) Buchanan, Jeff Buchanan, and Chloe Buchanan; mother Anne Russell, sister, Cindy (Dave) Erpelding, brother, Steve Riebhoff, sister, Kelly (Paul) Grein, and 7 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by father, Don Riebhoff and stepfather, Bob Russell.

"Sending my heartfelt condolences to the family. Kris was a kind and caring classmate who was always a friend to everyone. I rememember running into her a few times in Des Moines several years ago when she lived there and each time it made my day. In recent years we had connected a few times on social media and I was inspired by her bold and unwavering faith in Christ. She most certainly was a bright light in this world and will be missed by many, but she is no doubt rejoicing now in His presence. Matthew 25:23 ??"

"To all of Kris's beloved family - my most heartfelt condolences at this very sad time. I didn't know about Kris's battle - what a courageous person she seemed to be. I remember coming out to the farm and playing with the girls on Sunday's so Anne could get work done before we went back to church in the evening. How blessed you all were to have such a great example as a daughter, sister, mother and friend. May you all feel the peace only our Lord can provide knowing that we will meet again. Prayers that you will be able to remember Kris with smiles and not tears in the coming months and years. "
