She served in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years where she was stationed in Scotland and Hawaii. In 2017, Mary retired from the United States Post Office.
If there is a place in heaven for special Aunts, that is where you will find our Mary, surrounded by the wonderful memories she made with her granddaughter, nieces, nephews, and neighborhood children. Mary had an open policy: the door to her home, refrigerator, and her heart, was open to all. Our family will treasure Mary's last smile, last laugh, last hug, quick wit, and our last, "l love you Mary Pat". We know the memories will not be enough. Her caring heart was broken and was a heart that could not heal.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

"Mary was our sister. Not by blood but, by choice. We dipped into her well of strength & perseverance often working along side her at the post office. We reveled in her laughter through many a card game. We celebrated lifeline milestones & hugged & cried together when we were struggling. She was a gift. A bright spot in an otherwise gloomy workday. Mary- we wish you peace. Know that you continue as an inspiration to all of us lucky enough to have known & loved you. ---Your Sisters; Julia, Pauline, Glynnis, Diane, Kathy & Helia "

Lin-Da Stougard wrote on Nov 30, 2018:

"Mary led the fight in getting Z-Coil shoes allowed for workers at the Postal Service. She wrote Z-Coil and asked them to invent an enclosed heel for workers that needed them for work. I worked with Mary and wore the shoes as well. I fortunately retired in 2004 when certain people thought they were a safety hazard. What a joke but Mary fought with her letters and Z-Coil came up with a design that helped all those that needed the enclosed heel to satisfy the so called "safety issue". Thank You Mary for being the one that led the fight for all those workers. Since I worked for Z-Coil after retiring from the USPS I talked of her often and I am so proud to have known you and see how many people you helped in your fight. Condolences to Mary's family "
