Mary Francis Wiseman, one of nine children of Ralph Addison and Hattie Evelyn (Fuller) McLaughlin, was born on July 16, 1936 in Renick, West Virginia. She grew up in Frankford, West Virginia where she attended school.

Mary met Thomas Robert Rafferty, of Silver City, Iowa, through her brother, while they served in the Marines. The couple married on November 16, 1953 in Greenbrier, West Virginia and began their married life on a farm near Glenwood, Iowa. They lived in Silver City, Iowa where they operated a service station. Robert and Mary were blessed with children, Betty J, Michael Keith, Tracy Jo, Patricia Ann, and Rebecca Sue. Both Betty and Michael died in infancy. The family had lived in Malvern, Iowa for several years before moving to the Mansfield farm outside of Malvern, when Robert died from a heart attack on the way to the hospital on December 7, 1965, at the age of 34.

Mary and John Leroy Wiseman were introduced to each other by Lola Jones while at the 34 Supper Club. They were married on November 20, 1971 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Along with Mary's daughters, Tracy, Pat and Becky, they were blessed with a daughter Teresa Louise. Mary and John were married nearly 30 years when John died at their home on November 5, 2001.

"Mary was a favorite. I met her 50 years ago when I worked at Mansfield?s Furniture and she?d come in to pay her rent on the duplex. I loved her accent but mostly I admired her spirit! Life tossed a lot of curveballs in her direction but she?d pick herself up and dust herself off, chuckle and move on! R.I.P."
