Roelf Allen Evans Jr. (Allen), 66, of Federal Way, Washington, passed away on December 2, 2018. Allen was born in Bluefield, WV and graduated high school there. He continued studies in a technical college, studying to be an engineering designer. and working in the field. He provided service to others by being part of the Civil Air Patrol when he was young.
One of his passions was working on tourist railroads as he came from a long line of railroaders, who worked for Norfolk and Western Railroad. He worked as a conductor and also as director of safety for train excursions for many years.
Subsequently he was actively involved in model railroading in Greenville, SC, Atlanta, GA and in the Seattle Metro area. He was also involved in historical railroad societies. for years.
Allen is survived by his wife Susan. He is also survived by his three sons and their families and was very close to his eldest son Charles, wife Louise and grandsons Andrew and Christopher. He is also survived by other siblings and cousins. He was very close to his brother Dean Taylor and his cousin (whom he considered a brother) Sam Goodson. He was preceded in death by his father, Roelf Allen Evans Sr, mother, Frances Lawson, and step-father Tim Taylor.
Services will be private. If desired, friends may make a contribution to All American Assistance Dogs, a charity that provides service dogs to Veterans in need in Allen's name. The charity address is P.O. Box 4883, Federal Way, WA 98063. Allen respected the work of the charity and the benefit of dogs to veterans; his wife is also on the board of the charity.
