Geraldine Asmussen, 98, of Glenwood, IA, passed away December 6, 2018 in Council Bluffs, IA. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 10, 2018 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Glenwood. Burial will be in the West Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the funeral home.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials are to Grace United Methodist Church, St. Croix Hospice, or Alzheimer's Association

Geraldine LaVonne Asmussen, one of four children of Florence (Gray) and Clyde Shook, Sr., was born on July 18, 1920 near Carson, Iowa. As a small child, her family moved to a farm south of Emerson, Iowa. Geraldine attended the Keystone Country School and graduated from the Strahan Consolidated High School. She received her Rural Teacher's Certificate from Simpson College and taught in rural schools. When her children were in school, she was a substitute teacher for five years.

Geraldine and Arno Asmussen were united in marriage on November 16, 1941, in Falls City, Nebraska. To this union three children were born, Dale, Judy, and Carol.

Geraldine was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and an active member of the Pythian Sisters. She became the top officer as Grand Chief in the Grand Temple of Iowa. Geraldine served as a 4-H leader for the Jolly Juniors 4-H club for many years and received the 4-H Leader of the Year Award and was recognized in the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame. She enjoyed the neighborhood AWOL (Active West Oak Ladies) Club, which she was one of the founders of.

Geraldine and Arno were married 40 years when Arno passed away on July 24, 1982.

Geraldine passed away on December 6, 2018, at the Country House Residence for Memory Care in Council Bluffs, Iowa, at the age of 98 years, 4 months, and 18 days. In addition to her beloved husband Arno, she was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Marion Shook and Clyde Shook, Jr.; and sister Betty Lafferty.

Geraldine is survived by her children, Dale Asmussen and wife Priscilla of Loveland, CO, Judy Goos and husband Jim of Glenwood, and Carol Rogers and husband James of Glenwood; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; other relatives; and a host of friends.
