In loving memory of

Mona E. Gimler
April 8, 1929 - December 16, 2018

Mona E. Gimler passed away on December 16, 2018, at the age of 89.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio on April 8, 1929, Mona lived an amazing life.

In 1949 Mona married Gilbert J. Tomitz. Over the next several years, they expanded their family by 6. Over the course of their marriage, there were yearly trips to Ontario Canada for family vacations, day trips to Euclid Beach, and all the usual chaos that ensues with a family of that size.

After raising her six children, Mona migrated to Deerfield Beach Florida in 1974 to start a new chapter with her husband, Fay J. Downing.

Mona enjoyed a wonderful life of travel and boating. Even an extensive motorcycle trip from Deerfield to Alaska with Fay. Her life with him was truly a fairy-tale until his passing in 1982.

Mona managed to fill the void Fay left with undying love and affection for her grandchildren. Mona was then blessed with eleven grandchildren who were the delight of her life. Whether she was building sandcastles on the beach with them or sitting on the backyard swing telling stories or listening to secrets. Grams was always present and an unwavering source of love and pride.

Mona was lucky enough to find love again in the heart of Warren A. Gimler. Mona and Warren's love story spanned from Deerfield Beach to the beautiful mountain home they built together in Franklin, North Carolina. Mona and Warren often enjoyed the Smokey Mountain retreat they built and thoroughly enjoyed sharing it with friends and family. Warren's love for Mona was evident every time he looked at her. Sadly we lost Warren in June of 2017.

Mona was blessed to have great loves that were a shining example of how truly wonderful relationships are cultivated.

Mona is survived by her loving children: Frank Tomitz, Dana Porrello (Michael), Sheri Tomitz (Jack), Michael Tomitz (Molly), Dino Tomitz (Maria), and Beth Tomitz Corsi. Brother and sister: James Naro and Sarah Jane Rogaliner. Eleven grandchildren: The late Michael Porrello (Christina), Mark Porrello, Michael and Elizabeth Krall, Jeremy Tomitz (Jessie), Jason Tomitz, Dina Tomitz Suta (Adi) and Maria Tomitz, Johnny and Elizabeth Fay Corsi, and Benjamin Rader (Madison). Great grandchildren: Vincent and Maria Porrello and Jacob Tomitz. Mona is also survived by her stepchildren: Patricia Downing Weaver, James Downing, Warren Gimler Lisa) and Lynn Miller (Neil). Step-grandchildren: Curt Pritchard, Cale Pritchard, Tommy Gimler (Brooke), Melissa McNulty (Shawn), Christopher Shultis (deceased), and Randy and Heather Shultis: Step-great-grandchildren: Shawn McNulty and Hunter Gimler. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be offered on Friday, December 28, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 380 S. Federal Highway, Deerfield Beach, FL 33441. Private entombment services will be held at a later date.
