Raymond William "Ray" Miller
October 1, 1928 - January 7, 2019

Raymond W. "Ray" Miller, 90, of Monmouth, Iowa, passed away on Monday morning, January 7, 2019, at his home in Monmouth, Iowa.

Friends and family may gather for One Last Party® in remembrance of "Ray" on Friday, January 11, 2019, from 5 to 7 P.M. in "The Bistro" at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Cremation has taken place and a private family burial will be held at the Hickory Grove Cemetery, rural Monmouth, Iowa.

Raymond William Miller was born on October 1, 1928 in Moravia, Iowa, to William and Rose (Byers) Miller. His early years were spent in Iowa, and then his family moved to Colorado where he attended school. Upon his father's death, his family returned to Iowa. He married Lela Jane Carr Houston on August 30, 1958 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

"Ray" had worked as an operator lineman for many years for IBEW out of Rock Island from 1968 until retirement and also during his working years he served as the Monmouth Town Marshall for several years. In retirement, he worked for the Franzen Family Used Tractors and the City of Monmouth. He enjoyed mowing the lawn and being outdoors, taking care his dog Buttons as well as helping other people with their dogs, helping out friends and family when needed, and scratch off lottery tickets.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Mike Miller of Maquoketa, IA, and Christy (Brian) Schmidt of Andrew, IA; step-children, Kenny Houston of Monmouth, IA, and Sandy Christoffersen of Monmouth, IA; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Orville Miller of Cummings, IA, and Wilfred "Red" Miller of Omaha, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents, half-siblings Edgar, Bill, Charles, Alice, Dorothy and one in infancy, brothers James, Willard and Wilbur, and his wife Jane on February 2, 2002.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Raymond W. "Ray" Miller memorial fund has been established.

We never had to worry about her because we knew that Ray would spoil and take good care of her.
