Russell G. Crowner
April 18, 1945 - January 5, 2019

Russell G. Crowner age 73, of Huxley, suddenly passed away Jan. 5, 2019. A gathering of friends and family will be from 3 - 6:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, with the family present from 4 - 6:00 p.m. at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, Ames, Iowa.
Russ was born on April 18, 1945 in Burlington, Iowa the son of Clifford and Betty Crowner. While Russ was a student at Burlington High School, He was part of the DECA program. Russ worked at the local Goodyear store half the day and went to school the other half graduating in 1963. He married Pat Moser in Burlington on April 1, 1967. In 1974 Russ and Pat moved to Jefferson. Russ went to work at McAtee Tire. In 1975 Russ and Dean McAtee started McAtee Tire in Ames on S. Duff. In 1981 Russ purchased the business from Dean McAtee and changed the name to Crowner Tire, he later changed the name to Freedom Tire with stores in Ames and the Des Moines Metro area. Russ's hobby included collecting antique gas pumps and memorabilia, and watching his grandsons Grant and Logan in Baseball, Football and Basketball. Russ enjoyed watching Iowa State Football and Basketball. Russ always enjoyed being around family and friends.
Russ is survived by his wife Pat Crowner, their son and daughter-in-law, Quentin (Anne) Crowner, grandsons, Grant and Logan, sister, Kay Krieger, her husband Dennis, and a brother, Rod Crowner, his wife Sheila, and many nieces and nephews.
