Franklin K. Tse
December 23, 1939 - January 11, 2019

It is with great sadness the family of Franklin Kin Tse, 79, of Southwest Ranches, FL, announce his passing on January 11, 2019.

Franklin was born in Canton, China to Kam-Chung Tang and Shui-Chork Tse on December 23, 1939. He immigrated to the United States with his two brothers and one sister in 1962. Franklin received his Master's degree in environmental science from Washington State University and worked as a civil engineer for the Florida Department of Transportation, where he was an integral part of a team that designed Miami's Golden Glades Interchange. In 1968, he married the love of his life, Norma Eng Tse and moved to Florida where they would raise their family.

Franklin was a key leader and member of the South Florida Asian-American and Chinese communities through the years. He was a former president of the Asian-American Federation of Florida and founder of the Asian Arts Festival located at the Fruit and Spice Park, where for years was a leading cultural and community festival of the South Florida Asian community. Within the Chinese community, Franklin served as president of the Chinese-American Benevolent Association (CABA), in Miami, Florida, which organized and supported many events and activities benefitting the South Florida Chinese community. Among the programs that Franklin participated in was the annual CABA scholarship banquet, recognizing Chinese high school graduates for the scholastic, community and personal achievements. Franklin additionally served as the president of the Organization of Chinese Americans of South Florida, OCA-SF. He, along with other local chapter members, organized the very successful national OCA convention held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Miami. A memorable event organized with the help of Franklin during the convention was "A Taste of China" benefit that raised thousands of dollars for local charities and featured foods created by several of the top Asian restaurants in Miami. Franklin also served on the OCA's National Board representing the South Florida chapter, as well as Director for the Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center and Sun Sentinel Diversity Venture Fund/Broward United Way. Among other organizations and activities that Franklin participated in or supported included the National Conference of Christians and Jews, the city of Hollywood's Asian Advisory Council, the Hollywood Asian American International Film Festival, Coral Springs MLK Committee, Broward School Board Desegregation Task Force, and the Broward School Board Diversity Committee, as well as other local Chinese community organizations.

Franklin enjoyed spending time with his family, listening to classical music, cooking, planting fruit trees, and investing in real estate. His love of real estate led him to pursue his broker's license and start a real estate investment company, Fortune International, Inc.

His sisters Helen and Judy precede Franklin in transition.

Franklin is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Norma and his children Jennifer Tse, Michele (Vinny) Laudicina, Howard (Jenny) Tse, and Richard Tse. His six grandchildren, Kayla, Eric, Grace, Kaylin, Alexa, and Brayden will lovingly remember their fun loving and doting grandfather who encouraged them to study hard and challenge themselves to be the best they can be. His three siblings, Steve (Elizabeth) Tse, Grace Tse, and Dr. David (Jean) Tse, will also fondly remember Franklin.

He will be greatly missed by the many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends that have come to know and love him.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3-5pm on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Fred Hunter Funeral Home, located at 2401 S. University Dr. Davie, FL 33324.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Franklin's name to Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, c/o Dr. Nasser Al-Rashid Orbital Vision Research Center in support of Dr. David Tse's eye cancer research. 900 NW 17th Street, Room 6 Miami, FL 33136.
