Gordon Howard Beard, age 92 of Monroe, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Hospice of Pella Comfort House. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 21, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church or the Monroe Fire and Rescue. The son of Roy J and Edna Belle (Dunlavy) Beard, Gordon was born on July 10, 1926 in Mingo, Iowa. Gordon graduated from Colfax High School in 1944. On September 27, 1953, he was united in marriage to Joyce Spegal. He was a 70+ year member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Gordon worked at Van Ryswyk Plumbing and Heating for over 40 years. He was a member of the Flutter Wheels Square Dancers and enjoyed reading and traveling.
Those left to honor his memory include his three sons, Randy Beard, Tim (Kim) Beard, and Melvin (Norma) Beard; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and a sister, Ardythe Timmins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Darlene in 2010.
