KAREN ANN SCHIED
Karen Ann Schied, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law and aunt,
died on Friday, January 11, 2019 at Sarasota, Florida. Karen was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota on
August 20, 1943, to Edna and Lyle Kelly. She moved to Bradenton, Florida in 1953, where she lived
with her mother and step-father, Russell Van Deer, until her marriage to Curtis Schied on May 27,
1967. She was a Navy bride, living in Newport, Rhode Island and Norfolk, Virginia before moving
back to Sarasota, Florida in 1969. Karen loved her family, especially raising her beloved greatgrandsons,
Jordan and Elijah. She pampered her cats and dogs and enjoyed growing her favorite
flowering plant, the hydrangea.
Karen is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Curtis, her daughter, Kelly Foley (Mike), and
her son, Timothy (Lea). She leaves 3 grandchildren, Madison, Tony and Chelsea, 2 great-grandsons,
Jordan and Elijah, and her nephews, John (Michele), Michael, and Daniel (Kristen) Kelly. Karen
was preceded in death by her father, Lyle Kelly, her mother, Edna Van Deer, her brother, Thomas
Kelly, her sister-in-law, Carolee Kelly, and her step-father, Russell Van Deer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 28, 2019, at
Incarnation Catholic Church, 2901 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, Florida 34239. Burial will be private.
