Opal M. Jones
July 15, 1921 - January 18, 2019

Opal Marie (Toland) Jones was born July 15, 1921 on a farm east of Randolph, IA. She passed away peacefully in her home on January 18, 2019.

She was born to Harry and Esther Toland, The family settled in the Northboro, IA area. As a senior, Opal was a member of the Little Seven Conference championship team of 1938. She also represented Northboro in the Miss Iowa Beauty Pageant.

Opal married Ermal Sheldon Jones on September 12, 1941 at the Northboro Methodist Church. The pair eventually bought a farm south of Coin where they raised their two children Suzanne and Kevin. In September of 2018 they celebrated 77 years of marriage.

Opal spent her life working the farm with Sheldon, raising her children and later on supporting and cheering on her grandchildren. She was an avid sports enthusiast and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents, a stillborn son, 6 siblings: Elliot, Geraldine, Leota, Paul, Frances and Bill; her daughter-in-law Joy Jones and numerous other family and friends.

She is survived by her husband Sheldon, daughter Suzanne (Paul) Richle, son Kevin, sisters Nancy Finley and Rosemary Oblock, 9 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 25, 2019 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Shenandoah.

Visitation with the family will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 25, 2019 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Shenandoah.

Burial will be held at the Union Grove Cemetery in Northboro.

Memorials may be directed to the Perpetual Education Fund for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
