"Pat, Matt, Mark and Spouses and Grandchildren, We love you all and will miss Felo dearly. He was a great uncle and man. One more stubborn Slovak gone. We have wonderful memories of our childhood to keep us going. He definitely was a master gardener with vegetables and plants. I didn't like the Becherovka but I can do the Slivovivice. Here's to you, Felo, and I will have drink for you too! Love to all, Tom, DeeDee, Leslie Cain"

Tom Bednar wrote on Jan 24, 2019:

"Pat, we send our best wishes to you and your whole family. Felo was my great-uncle, my grandfather John lived across the street from Felo. When I was a boy I loved visiting Ft. Dodge and was fascinated by my grandpa and his brothers Mike and Felo, they seemed able to make or fix practically anything, and both Felo and John had equally old, equally colorful Ford pickup trucks. As a kid I couldn't get over Felo's bees; he told me that years ago neighbors would call if they needed a beehive removed from a tree and Felo would head over, removing the hive and trying to hurry it back home in time to keep the bees. When I was older I got to hear about Felo and Pat's travels, and Felo is the source of most of what I know about his parents and our family history in Slovakia. My father and I are indebted to Felo for helping us locate the house in which his mother lived in Drahovce, Slovakia, circa 1918, which he and Pat had found on a prior trip. It was and always will be an inspiration to see the tiny house, the little town, the Bednar and Veracka names in the church graveyard, and to think about the distance Felo's parents and Felo and his siblings traveled in life. Our best wishes to you all, Tom (Tommy), Katherine, Clara and Sam Bednar, Washington, D.C."

"So sorry for your family's loss, Felo was always making me laugh, Alice my co-worker and Felo would tease each other how old each other was, Alice asked Felo if the wheel was invented when he was young, Felo always had a good come-back , he says well you know Adam, well it wasn't Eve that gave him the apple it was Alice !!!"

"Pat, Matt, Mark, and all of the family, I am very sorry for your loss. This is a little memory that I have. When Mark and I were young we were hanging out at Olsen park and were approached by a young black dog. It was super friendly and followed us to the Bednar home. I remember Mark asking Felo if they could keep him. That dogs name became Ace, and he was welcomed into a loving home and became a loved family member. A few months later I was at the house and Felo and Mark couldn't wait to show me that they had taught Ace to sneeze on command. Kind of a silly story but, one I will never forget. Bless you all.
