In loving memory of

Mark David Livengood
October 17, 1929 - January 20, 2019

Mark D. Livengood passed away on January 20th, 2019, at his home in Auburn, Washington. Mark is survived by his wife, Sally, his son Craig (Wing); his son Darren (Maina), and grandson Kento; his younger sister Margaret and many family members and friends, all of whom miss him dearly. Mark was 89 years old when he departed this life.

Mark was born October 17th, 1929 to Lester and Helen Livengood in Spokane, Washington. Much of his childhood was spent playing outdoors, a habit he maintained for most of his adult life.

Mark went off to college at the age of 18, first to WSU, then to UC Berkeley.

From 1952 to 1954, Mark served in the US Army in Korea. He traveled the country with a local driver, delivering correspondence courses to US combat troops, so that they might continue their education. Although he realized the tragedy of war, he often looked back fondly on his service. He was proud to have served his country overseas, and valued the camaraderie and sense of purpose that he experienced in the Army.

After his service in the Armed Forces, Mark returned to Spokane and worked for KREM as a cameraman. He also began dating a beautiful young lady who lived nearby named Sally Palmer. They both fell deeply in love and were married on June 7, 1958. Mark and Sally celebrated their 60th Anniversary in 2018. They had two boys together, Craig and Darren.

After marriage, Mark decided to return to school to pursue a career in something that he was truly gifted at: listening to others. He attended the UW in Seattle and received his Masters Degree in Social Work. He then embarked on what would become his lifelong career of serving others as a Social Worker. His jobs were varied and included Manager of the the Social Work Department at Tacoma General Hospital, Crisis Counselor, and many more roles. Mark retired in September of 2007, at the age of 77.

Mark was busy living during his 89 years, and belonged to several organizations including (but not limited to)The National Association of Social Workers, The Optimist Club, and Unity Church. He also kept occupied with several activities, including: enjoying the outdoors, playing the piano, and sailing.

Mark loved his family deeply, and was always a gentleman to his wife. He also spent a considerable amount of time with his sons, something that was appreciated then, and deeply cherished now. Friends were also very important to Mark, and he had many of them. Spending time with good friends was one of his greatest pleasures. If you were at a gathering, and Mark was present, there was guaranteed to be an abundance of laughter. Mark had a great sense of humor and was always able to find something to laugh about.

Mark Livengood's Celebration of life service has been postponed due to weather, until further notice.
