Ian Dylan Alkire, 27 of Kirkland, WA passed away at 2:13 pm on 22 Jan 2019 at Evergreen hospital. His cause of death was suicide by hanging. He was surrounded by his immediate family when his heart took its last beat. Then Ian was rushed into surgery so his organs could give three people a new lease on life. Ian was a strong supporter of the organ donor program.
Ian was born at Madigan Army Hospital, Fort Lewis, WA on 14 Oct 1991. He was the only son of Gregory Alkire and Rochelle (Alkire) Maestas. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandfather John Alkire. Ian was also survived by his sisters Angelique Alkire of Lake Stevens, WA and Cheyenne Maestas of Kent WA, Two sons Kai Alkire and Ryker Stiles, both of Kirkland WA, two Grandmothers Karen Alkire of Illinois, and Ruth Chandler of Fort Edward NY, as well as Several Aunts and Uncles and a special friend who was like a big brother to him, Lance Seawright. Ian made friends where ever he went and will be sorely missed by many.
Ian was a bass player and was in several bands (Arsenal, Perception to name a couple) that preformed in the Seattle area. He was into all types of music but played Thrash Metal with his bands. He had a natural ability to listen to a song and be able to play it. His band Perception, was once interview on KISW. Ian won the 1st place award for an essay he wrote on civil disobedience in 6th grade. His name appears on a plaque at the Federal Way School Admin bldg.
Ian always seems to have the best bad luck i.e. He hit a parked car. He only ended up with a failure to pay attention ticket because when he hit it the car's trunk opened and it was full of stolen car parts. The police were more interested in the car he hit instead of him, so they let him go. That seemed to be the kind of luck he had for most of his life. Ian was an optimist always seeing the good in people. He could always find something positive about everything.
Ian had been going through a rough patch for the last few months before he took his life. No matter how bad you are hurting suicide isn't the answer, you only hurt the ones that love you the most. The pain you are feeling is nothing compared to the pain you cause the innocent ones you leave behind. If you are thinking of suicide talk to someone. You are not just hurting yourself you are hurting everyone around you also. Someone may save you on your first attempt but may not be able to save you on your next attempt. It is a cry for help that sometimes isn't heard until it is too late.
A benefit concert in Ian's name will be performed on Saturday March 2, 2019 at The Kraken in Seattle, doors will open at 8 o'clock pm.
