Jay Alan Bartell
March 27, 1969 - February 7, 2019

Jay Alan Bartell, 49, of Bernard, Iowa, passed away suddenly on Thursday evening, February 7, 2019, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa.

A celebration of Jay's life will be held at 7 P.M., Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 4 to 7 P.M. at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the visitation and a private burial will be held at a later date.

Jay Alan Bartell was born in Rock Island, Illinois, to Donald Alan and Debra Roxanne (Booth) Bartell. He was a 1987 graduate of Moline High School. He later attended Northeast Iowa Community College where he earned a welding certificate, and completed a four-year tool and die apprenticeship program. He was also licensed and certified in non-destructive testing. He married Jennifer Rebecca Otting on April 25, 1998 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Otter Creek, Iowa. Two children were born to this union, Jared Alan and Justine Rose.

Jay was a very hard worker. He was currently working for Eagle Engineering in Eldridge, Iowa - ten years as a tool and die maker and more recently as a Manufacturing Engineer. He previously owned and operated Bartell Construction for seven years. He also worked for many years as a tool and die maker, CNC Setup-Operator and welder for several area companies including, CMT Inc, ModForm Inc, Precision Tool & Engineering, Uelner Tool and Die & D.E. Smith and as a NDT Inspector for Quad City Testing Labs.

Jay enjoyed building things, fishing, kayaking, and tinkering. He loved spending the 4th of July with family and friends.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Jennifer "Jenny" Bartell of Bernard, IA; children, Jared Alan Bartell of Bernard, IA, and Justine Rose Bartell of Bernard, IA; his mother, Debra Bartell of Bernard, IA; maternal step-grandmother, Vey Booth of Reynolds, IA; aunts, Kay Babcock of East Moline, IL, and Michelle Deroo of Miami, FL; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Terry and Concheeta Otting of Otter Creek, IA; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, and his father Donald Alan on November 15, 2013.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Jay Alan Bartell memorial fund has been established.

Jay made a detachable dock that was complete with 4 park benches and electric motors that took us to the best viewing site on the lake for the fireworks.
