Sonya Lea Kerkove
April 3, 1965 - January 26, 2019

On Saturday January 26, 2019, Sonya Lea Kerkove, age 53 of Plano, Texas, loving daughter, mother, grandmother, and sister went to be with our Lord and Savior. Sonya was born April 3, 1965 in Fort Madison, Iowa to Jerry and Mary Bell Cramblit Kerkove. Sonya graduated from New London High School in 1983 and her journey to the metroplex began. She received her Associate of Science Degree from Collin Community College and her Bachelor's of Nursing Degree from the University of Texas in Arlington (Phi Sigma Theta National Honor Society). Sonya had a passion for serving others. She adored her grandchildren; loved her family and friends. As a Registered Nurse she served her patients with tender loving care. She was employed by Baylor Medical Center for 27 years in various departments: Liver & Kidney Transplant, GI Recovery, Wound Care, ER Trauma, diabetic education and Case Management. She also worked part time as Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner for Collin County and as a Rape Crisis advocate. She served the community as a Horse Rider Assistant for Equest; Animal Ambassador II for SPCA of Texas; Den Leader for Cub Scouts (Pack 220); Girl Scout leader; and a member of Grace Presbyterian Church where she volunteered with the children. She had a servant heart putting others needs before her own.
She was known for her infectious smile, her sense of humor and her kind and compassionate spirit.
Sonya was preceded by her mother Mary Bell Kerkove. She is survived by her father Jerry Kerkove, daughter Megan Kerkove, Plano, Tx, 3 Grandchildren, Michael Savage, Plano Tx, Joey Savage, Parker, TX ,Sierra Graves of Plano, Texas; four brothers, Clayton Kerkove, Plano,Tx, Anthony Kerkove, New London, Iowa, Michael Kerkove, Wellman, IA, and Kenyon Kerkove , Heartland, Texas.
The funeral service will be at 12:00 Saturday at Elliott Chapel, New London with burial immediately following at Bonaparte Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 AM with the family present from 11:00 until the time of the service. Online condolences may be left at www.elliottfuneralchapel.com.
