In loving memory of

William Benson
November 14, 1932 - February 10, 2019

William Wayne Benson died on Feb 10, 2019 at Sunnyside Village in Sarasota, Florida. He was born in Campbell, MO on November 14, 1932 to Millard Francis Benson and Hessie Vaughn Benson. He married the love of his life, Phyllis Malin Benson, on July 4, 1953. Bill was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and a graduate of the University of Missouri with a degree in Business and Accounting. He spent his career with the IRS. He was a member of First Sarasota Baptist Church and a former member of Parkway Village Baptist Church in Memphis, TN where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday school for many years.
Bill was a kind, gentle man who loved his Lord, his wife, and his family and friends. It was love at first sight for Bill and Phyllis and they were like newlyweds until his last day. Their love and devotion to one another has been a reflection of their love of Christ and an example for all to follow. His granddaughters have memories of special songs written by Poppy for his girls and overnight stays at his house where he served orange juice in bed in stemmed glasses. He loved to hear them singing hymns to the Lord with their Nanny. He never missed one of Marty's ball games and was always up for a fishing trip with him. Mindy was Daddy's little girl and he thought she was perfect! He was also very mechanically inclined and could figure out a way to fix anything. Bill was an amazing a son, husband, father and grandfather and never failed an opportunity to help his family.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis, son Marty Benson and wife Debby, daughter Mindy Wright and husband Bryan, 2 granddaughters Rachel Kirmeyer and husband Kirk, Rebekah Yeldell and husband Andrew and great granddaughter Charli Kate Yeldell
Many thanks to his friends at his dialysis center Fresenius, MCAT and Sunnyside Village who gave him wonderful care.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Veterans Cemetery in Memphis, TN.
The family requests any memorials be sent to St. Jude Children's Research hospital in Memphis, TN where his son Marty was a patient or a Christian ministry of your choice.

Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; I would not tell you this if it were not true. I am going there to prepare a place for you. After I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me so that you may be where I am.
John 14:3-5
