Wilbert August Fredrick Passehl
September 4, 1920 - February 15, 2019

****UPDATE: Due to current weather conditions, funeral services for Wilbert have been POSTPONED until 10:30 a.m., TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2019, at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Latimer. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on TUESDAY.

Wilbert August Fredrick Passehl was born September 4, 1920, to Henry and Amanda (Mahncke) Passehl on a farm west of Latimer, Iowa. He passed away Friday, February 15, 2019, at the age of 98 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City.

Wilbert attended country school a mile south of their home, west of Latimer. He was united in marriage to Doris Bobst on February 21, 1941, in Missouri. To this union five children were born: Bonnie, Linda, Karen, Jerry and David. They later divorced. Wilbert then married Alice (Kienol) Watt on August 28, 1989. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Latimer.

Wilbert was a devoted farmer. He helped neighbors either in the field or by welding their broken farm equipment when it was needed. Wilbert loved working on and driving antique cars and tractors. He drove them in parades and attended any event where he could see antique tractors and cars. He loved to travel and camp with friends in the CAL school district area. He always had something that needed maintained and would, on occasion, give it a new purpose. Wilbert was always able to keep himself busy. Throughout the '60s and '70s, Wilbert worked for Jason's Chamberlain Manufacturing and Triggs Manufacturing as a welder. He also did maintenance for Northrup King Seed Corn Company in Hampton and worked for Schneider Implement in Dows. Wilbert delivered motorhomes coast-to-coast for Winnebago in the late '70s and into the early '80s, until he began running the gas station in Alexander for the next five years. Most recently, he cut trees and ground stumps for the past twenty years.

Wilbert is survived by his daughter Bonnie Clark of Cedar Rapids, daughter Linda (Jeff) Butt of Lincoln, Nebraska, daughter Karen (Harris) Zander of Coulter, son Jerry (Volnetta) Passehl of Latimer, son David Passehl of Anita, seventeen grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren and twelve great-great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Amanda, wives Doris and Alice, granddaughter Dawn René Plagge, sister Regina Bobst, sister Irene Dhondt, brother-in-law Gene Bobst and brother-in-law Edward Dhondt.
