Duane Norman Benedict

Duane Benedict, 93, of Glenwood, died on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs. Memorial Service will be held at
10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Glenwood. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the memorial service.

Duane Norman Benedict, the youngest of three children of Norman Thomas and Sylvia Gladys (Boyce) Benedict, was born on April 25, 1925 in Glenwood, Iowa. He graduated from the Glenwood High School in 1943. Duane farmed at an early age by helping his father. He continued farming on land near Emerson, Iowa, but in 1954, Duane found that carpentry work was more to his liking. He worked in the carpentry business until his retirement.

Duane and Lois Ellen Jurgens were united in marriage on August 19, 1945 at St. John Lutheran Church in Mineola, Iowa. They were blessed with a son David.

Duane enjoyed carpentry and landscaping. He was extremely proud that a photo of his home was featured on the cover of the Better Homes & Garden magazine; showcasing his beautiful landscaped yard. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Duane and Lois were married 72 years when Lois passed away on October 15, 2017 at the Glen Haven Home in Glenwood.

Duane passed away at Jennie Edmundson Hospital on February 17, 2019 at the age of 93 years, 9 months, and 22 days. In addition to his beloved wife Lois, he was preceded in death by his parents; great granddaughter Hadleigh Griffin; great grandson Carter Ratliff; and his sisters, Gladys and her husbands, Lyle Williams, Dale Allensworth, and J.W. Doyel, and Viva Miller and her husband George.

Duane is survived by his son David Benedict and wife Lory of Malvern, IA; grandchildren, Stacy Griffin and husband Curtis of Glenwood, Brian Benedict and wife Samantha of Glenwood, Aaron Ratliff and wife Shantel of Denison, IA, and Terri Poe and husband Brian of Imogene, IA; great grandchildren, Faylynn, McKynlee, Harper, Sloane, Henry, Kelsey, Mason, Bailey, Luke, and Abby; extended relatives and their families; and many friends.
