Norman Carroll Graham was born on October 27, 19321 at home on the farm. His parents were Robert Carroll and Pauline (Hartje) Graham. Norman was raised on the family farm west of Carson with his sister, Marjorie.

Norman attended country school and later transferred to Carson Public Schools and graduated from there. Norman worked on the farm with his dad until he was drafted into the Army. He served as a lineman in Germany in the Korean War. While there, he shipped a cup and saucer to his mother. He told her, if she liked it, he would order the set. Norman didn't hear that she liked that one, so continued to send a cup and saucer set till Polly had a collection of 9 cups and saucers of various designs, with louder and louder patterns -she never did pick a set, but the collection is on display in Norman and Marjorie's home. After he was honorably discharged, Norman came home and continued farming with his dad.

Norman decided to call his best friend's sister and invited her to a square dance. It was with the Rural Youth Group, and their future was set. Marjorie and Norman were married March 20, 1960. Laurie Jean was born the next January and they moved to the Hartje farm by Silver City. David Hall joined them December 1962. Norman raised cattle, sheep, hogs, and chickens. He grew corn, alfalfa, and soybeans. To please his children, he also acquired various dogs, cats, goats, and a couple of ducks. Norman worked hard on his farm but also took time to attend his children's activities. He and Marjorie also square danced with their friends and neighbors. Norman and Marjorie traveled to Europe, the West Coast, Canada, Hawaii, and visited family in Phoenix.

After retirement, Norman and Marjorie moved to Carson and lived in her parents' home. Norman enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, and especially attending his grandchildren's activities. If you knew Norm, you listened to a story or two or twenty. Norman also took wonderful care of his darling wife, Marjorie. Laurie, Dave, and their families know that Norm couldn't be without his beloved bride. He wanted to be in heaven with her to celebrate their 59th anniversary, March 20th.

Norman was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marjorie and his parents. Those left to remember him are his daughter, Laurie (Steve) Schulte of Auburn, NE; son David (Sue) Graham of Grundy Center, IA; grandchildren, Nathan Graham and friend Jena (Kansas City), Jordan and Landon Graham, Grundy Center, and Claire and Brenna Schulte, Auburn, NE; sister Marjorie Roberson, Lincoln, NE; brother and sister-in-law, Clair and Wally Lewellen, Phoenix, AZ; sister-in-law Barb Lewellen, Omaha, NE; and dear nieces and nephews; other family; and friends.

Tributes

Robert Stewart wrote on Mar 7, 2019:

"May the promise found at Isaiah 25:8 bring some comfort in the death of Norman Carroll Graham. "He will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces." Just imagine, no more pain and grief due to the death of a love one! By means of the Kingdom that Jesus Christ taught us to pray for at Matthew 6:9,10; God is going to remove sickness, old age and death from the human family. God's original purpose for the earth being a paradise will be realized."

Marynel Tibbles wrote on Mar 4, 2019:

"Your father was the neatest person! When my daughter, Christy was little, we saw Norman at The Corral, eating lunch. We were leaving - Norman handed Christy a cockle bur & told her to have her Dad plant it! I suppose he knew how Carroll didn't like sunflowers, thistles, & cockle burs! It was cute!! He will be greatly missed!! "

"Dave and Laurie, Karen and I have had the privilege of being your parents neighbors to the south for the past 21 years. They were two of the finest and kindest people we have ever known and wonderful neighbors. Norm was always wanting me to use his things. He would say Todd better get my my ladder. The one you're on is not very good. Todd why don't you get my leaf sweep, no sense raking all them leaves. Todd come and get my tree primer and my leaf blower and on and on. You know where it's at in the garage. Just help yourself. I would always plow the snow off their front walk when I did ours with the 4-wheeler. Not for money but because I wanted to. Here he would always come with money, which I always refused and always lost. And it was always too much. A couple of times I thought I got the best of him, but somehow he managed to stick it 8n my coat pocket. One Spring several years ago Marge and Norm were on their knees working in the garden. I was doing something on the North side of our house and Norm saw me coming but Marge didn't. Norm says Marge, watch your cussin, the neighbors are outside! We all got a good laugh out of that. You both have our most sincere sympathy and we will miss your parents greatly. Don't hesitate to call on us if we can be of any help. Sincerely, Todd & Karen Shellberg"

"I walk my St. Bernard dog, Zen, by their house almost daily. I always loved when he was outside doing work. He would always greet me with the biggest smile and want to pet Zen. He always asked about my parents as he knew them from high school days. He had some good memories and stories that he would tell. No matter what mood I was in....I always walked away from our chats with a smile on my face. I will miss him as I walk by, but will still walk away with a smile on my face. The past few days I've thought about knocking on his door to share my sympathy of the passing of his dear wife....I'm so sad I never made that stop."
