Margaret Elizabeth "Meg" Morris of Newcastle, WA, our beloved sweetheart, sister, and friend passed away peacefully on Friday, March 1, 2019, after a courageous 15-month battle with cancer.
Meg was born on November 1, 1962, in New York City to John and Jean Morris. She grew up in Hartsdale, New York and Easton and Ridgefield, Connecticut. Nicknames included (cousin) "itt" owing to her thick, tush-length hair, "computer" to her superb memory and analytical skills and "professor" for the same reasons as "computer" plus she wasn't afraid to speak up and perhaps lecture her peers.
After graduation from Ridgefield High School, Meg attended Georgetown University, graduating in 1984 with a degree in English Language and Literature. During college, she honed her vocal gifts performing with Georgetown's a capella group, the Grace Notes.
Ongoing education and personal growth were a passion of Meg's, who strove for mastery in every undertaking, from telecommunications technical support and sales for Cincinnati Bell and later Verizon, to interests and a lifestyle that serve and heal the planet, incorporating Rubenfeld Synergy, Viniyoga teaching and therapy, and canine massage.
After college, Meg's corporate career began in Cincinnati, as did her passion for scuba diving. She became a divemaster, part owner of a dive shop and dive-in volunteer at the zoo, helping maintain underwater exhibits. Also a volunteer with the SPCA mobile adopt-a-pet unit, she was ecstatic whenever an abused cat or dog was placed in a good home. She also ran marathons, biked and swam for charity events.
"Originally from the east coast (Go Hoyas!) and after 20 years in the greater Cincinnati area, I found my home in the Seattle area in 2007.
In 2015 I said good bye to my corporate job to focus on what matters most. Right now growing a garden, feeding the birds, spending quality time with my dog Glee, and studying yoga therapy which will be offered by Movement Is the Gift, and small animal massage which will be offered by But What About the Dog?
I love to travel and am grateful for the abundance that allows me to visit new places, international and domestic. In 2017 I have visited CA, Canada, Mauritius, India, Costa Rica, PA, CO and airports in Korea, China, Seychelles. Who knows what the rest of the year will bring.
Current question I hold is how to provide loving service while being ok with my desire for comfort and beauty." (from Meg's Airbnb profile)
In Seattle, Meg's corporate career was with Verizon. She continued diving and participating in charity events. Beloved dogs Chloe(-2008) and Quigley (-2015) made the move with her. Here she met her fiancé-to-be Mike and adopted a sweet mini Aussie rescue, Glee. She enjoyed date night with Mike; and agility, nosework and herding classes with her furry charges.
She also became very active in spiritual communities as a devotee of masters Sri Narayani Amma and Her Holiness Sai Maa; and was committed to being a vehicle of healing feminine energy on the planet.
Her interests, curiosity and love of travel took her to scuba dives with spinner dolphins in Bonaire, yoga with howling monkeys in Costa Rica, pujas in India, darshan in Mauritius, maha yagya at the base of Mount Fuji, high tea with Sai Maa in London, and to visit a foster daughter in Cartagena.
Meg took the news of having cancer with her customary rational approach, drawing from a deep spiritual well and practices of discipline and service. When tumors grew quickly, necessitating bilateral nephrostomy tubes so her kidneys wouldn't get backed up, Meg playfully nicknamed the bags "Harry and Larry," aka the "boys". In December 2018 Meg took the boys on a mileage run to Bogota via Mexico thereby earning her millionth sky mile.
Meg chose to be optimistic. For her, that was the only option. She endured this trial with immeasurable grace, patience, and unwavering faith. She focused on the continuing simple joys, silver linings, love shown and rendered, and was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her focus was on quiet service to others up until just days before she drew her last breath.
Meg was engaged, positive, disciplined, courageous and giving. She is deeply missed. It seems she was taken much too soon; however, we have confidence that her spirit lives on and her essence has just changed, and that she continues in her commitment/passion to heal our world.
She is survived by her fiancé Mike Kato, Brother Dr Mark Morris, sister Kate Lucas, nephews Julian Morris and Ethan Morris; her beloved dog, Glee; and many friends in her Sai Maa, Amma, animal, people and planet-loving communities.

"Dear Meg,
I just learned of your passing...and in the midst of my shock and grief comes a flood of memories of our lovely walks and talks. Your boundless curiosity, and deep love for animals, humanity, the world around you. Your deep faith and spiritual explorations were inspiring, and it is clear that you lived what you were learning. I am writing this tribute directly to you, because although you no longer have an earthly body, I know that you remain alive in Spirit, and that you are enveloped in the highest love and continuing to do mighty work with it on the Other Side. Much Love and Peace to you my Sister-Friend! :) Leila"
