Erma Isabelle Burton, age 97 formerly of 2900 State Street #204B, Quincy, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 3:05 p.m. in North Adams Home.
She was born December 6, 1913 in Quincy, Illinois the daughter of Ivan and Elizabeth Perkins Franklin. She married Raymond F. White and he preceded her in death. She married Rev. Waldo M. Burton on January 9, 1954, and he preceded her in death on January 3, 1985. Later, she married Leon Meleney, and he preceded her in death on August 4, 2008.
She was a 1932 graduate of Maplewood High School in Camp Point, Illinois. She worked for Likes Jewelry Store and Block and Kuhl. She was self employed as a dog groomer for many years and raised poodles. Erma was a member of First Southern Baptist Church.
Survivors include 2 grandchildren, Leonard Schnellbecker of Fowler, IL, and Deb (Dick) Lawson of West Point, IL; a great-granddaughter, Heather Crouch of Quincy; and a great-great grandson, Marcus Gilbert of Quincy; a son-in-law, James Schnellbecker of Fowler; a step daughter, Shirley Baker of Mt. Sterling, IL and numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her son, James Ray White; her daughter, Norrita Schnellbecker, a brother, William Franklin, and a sister, Charlotte Grussemeyer.
Services: Friday, June 3, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Rains officiating.
Burial:Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation: Thursday, June 2, 2011 from 5 - 7 p.m. in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Memorials: First Southern Baptist Church.
