Armenia "Mimi" Engelmeyer

Armenia "Mimi" Engelmeyer, age 75, of 6235 N. 45th St., Quincy, died Sunday at 2:15 PM at Blessing Hospital.

She was born May 31, 1935 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Albert and Anna Sunderlik Venditti. On August 25, 1956 she married John Engelmeyer in Ilasco, MO. He survives.

Mimi attended school in Ilasco, Missouri and graduated from St. Mary Hospital School of Nursing in Quincy. She was a registered nurse at St. Anthony's Hospital in Effingham, St. Mary Hospital, Blessing Hospital, Illinois Veterans Home and Quinsippi Nursing Center. She organized the first library at St. Mary's School in Quincy. Mimi was a den mother for Cub Scouts when her children were young. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, where she sang in the choir and St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. She had been an active member of the Legion of Mary for 15 years. Mimi was also a board member of the Ilasco Holy Cross Chapel Association and a life-time charter member of the Ilasco Area Historical Preservation Society.

Mimi was a devoted grandmother who followed her grandchildren's activities in both music and sports. She enjoyed watching and feeding the birds at her home in rural Quincy and reading novels. She and John enjoyed traveling together.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: four children, Greg (Diana) Engelmeyer of Pittsburgh, PA, Ann (David) Ipsen of Denver, CO, John A. Engelmeyer of Quincy, and Mark (Tina) Engelmeyer of Daphne, AL; nine grandchildren, Jenna and Mark Engelmeyer of Pittsburgh, PA, Jeff and Todd Ipsen of Denver, CO, Katie, Luke and Joseph Engelmeyer of Quincy, Kylie and Nicole Engelmeyer of Daphne, AL, and a nephew, Michael Amberg of St. Louis, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Mary Frances Amberg.

Services: Friday, February 4, 2011 - 9:30 a.m. prayers at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Rose of Lima, with Father Arnaud Devillers officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation: 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Thursday, February 3rd at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with a 7:00 pm Rosary by the Legion of Mary.
