Theodore R." Ted" Wahlmann, 66, 1800 Wilmar Orchard, Quincy, died Friday, November 3, 2000 at 4:28pm in Blessing Hospital.
He was born May 5, 1934 in Buffalo, New York, the son of Raymond Otto Charles and Alma Elphia Sophia Pape Wahlmann. On December 21, 1968, he married Nancy R Herzog in Christ Lutheran Church in Webster Groves, MO. She survives.
Survivors in addition to his wife are a mother, Alma E. Wahlmann, Quincy; 3 children, Jonathan Wahlmann, San Diego, CA; Michael Wahlmann and his wife Susan, Rock Island, IL; Joy Ott and her husband Ricardo, Silver Spring, MD. His father preceded him in death.
He was co-valedictorian of the1952 Class at Lutheran High School in St. Louis. He received his Bachelor Degree of Science in Electrical Engineering in1957 from Washington University, School of Engineering, St. Louis, MO. and his Master of Engineering Administration from Washington University, Sever Institute.
While studying for his bachelor degree he served an internship as an engineer with Hughes Aircraft in California, and at Elgin Air Force Base in Florida. After graduation he joined the US Army Reserve as a combat engineer serving a short time in Korea.
He was employed as an engineer for KETC (TV) St. Louis, KADY (AM) St. Charles, MO in 1958, and KPLR -TV, St. Louis in 1959. He was a Radio-TV lecturer at Lindenwood College in St. Charles, MO. He was owner and manager of Century Custom Recording Service in St. Louis. He was engineer for Fishbach and Moore Systems Company in Dallas, TX and in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1972 returning to Dallas in 1976.
In 1977 he joined Harris Corporation in Quincy and was employed as a System Design Manager, Principal Engineer, Senior Administrator of International Sales, Technical Support, Video Sales Development, and finally Manager of Government Sales Administration.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where he was former president of the church council. He was technical advisor for WQUB radio station, treasurer of the Warm Hearth Cooperative Buying Club, past secretary of Quincy Metropolitan Exposition, Auditorium and Office Building, past board member and treasurer of Quincy Society of Fine Arts, past board member, president, cast and crew member of Quincy Community Theatre, past board member of Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center in Oregon, IL, past member of leadership committee of the Central/ Southern Illinois Synod of the ELCA, past member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and of the Audio Engineering Society and the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, Boy Scout leader and Leader of Cub Scout Pack 21, Adams School, and the Parents Council of Illinois Math and Science Academy. He was a member of the St. Louis Choral Society, Johannesburg Bach Choir and the Quincy Symphony Chorus. He also had his commercial pilot's license.
He was known for his wonderful, creative sense of humor, and was a devoted husband and father.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 am Wednesday, November 8, at the Christ Lutheran Church, Rev. Paul Schwarzkopf officiating. Burial will be in Our Redeemer Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri at 4pm on Wednesday. The family will receive friends from 4-7 pm Tuesday at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to WQUB andor Christ Lutheran Church.
