Catherine Natalie Slater

Catherine Natalie Slater, age 86 of Quincy and formerly of St. Louis, MO died Monday, February 22, 2010 at 7:20 a.m. in her residence.

She was born May 26, 1923 in Quincy, Illinois the daughter of Antonio and Nina Victoria Malambri Sabatini. On February 18, 1950 she married John Douglas Slater in the St. Louis Cathedral.

She attended Notre Dame High School in Quincy, IL. Catherine was employed by the Civil Service Department of the Federal Government in St. Louis, Quincy, Florida and California.

She was a member of St. Justin the Martyr Sunset Hills, Mo until 2007 where she was also a member of "Marthas" and a Room Mother. She was a member of the Church of St. Peter in Quincy since 2007 and frequented the Adoration Chapel. She was a volunteer at Blessing Hospital. Catherine was a dedicated mother and grandmother.

Survivors include two daughters, Nina MacDonald of St. Louis, MO, and Natalie Cornwell and husband Bill of Quincy; a son, John D. Slater, III and wife Nancy of LaMirada, CA; seven grandsons, Joseph MacDonald of St. Louis, MO, Rick MacDonald of Pocahontas, IL, J. D. Slater, IV of LaMirada, CA, L.B. Cornwell of Quincy, Harrison VonPelt of LaMirada, CA, Paul Joseph Cornwell of Quincy, and Justin F. Slater of LaMirada, CA; one sister Mary Ann Prince of Joplin, MO; a brother, Joseph Sabatini and wife Rosemarie of St. Louis, MO.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Carl, William and John Sabatini, and three sisters, Isabelle Husted, Rita Freeman and Natalie Sabatini.

Services: Saturday February 27, 2010 at 11 a.m. in The Church of St. Peter with Father John Burnette officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation: Saturday February 27, 2010 from 10-11 a.m. at the Church of St. Peter.
