Robert Howard Nachenberg, age 76, of 1678 Hampshire, Quincy, died Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 8:35 am in Blessing Hospital.
He was born July 7, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Alexander S. and Tybe Zwick Nachenberg. On August 12, 1956 he married Sandra Ann Mendelson in Quincy, Illinois. She survives.
Bob attended Sullivan High School on the north side of Chicago and the University of Illinois. He was a member of Phi Epsilom Pi social fraternity. He served in the U. S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Lewis, Tacoma, Washington from 1957-1959. Bob worked at the Busy Bee Mercantile Company for 48 years retiring as owner in May of 2004.
He was a member of B'Nai Shalom Temple where he had been a board member and was currently on the cemetery committee. He was a member of the Quincy Racquet Club. His hobbies included bowling, tennis, and he was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family, visiting in the homes of his children and interacting with his beloved grandchildren. He always made an effort to attend plays, ball games and other important activities that they were in.
Survivors also include two sons, Jeffrey "Jeff" Alan Nachenberg and his wife Nicki of Houston, TX, and Richard "Rick" David Nachenberg and wife Linda of Columbia, MD; 5 grandchildren, Alexander G. and Tess Rebecca Nachenberg, both of Houston, TX; Jay S, Koby L, and Ty B Nachenberg, all of Columbia, MD; a sister, Enid Friedman of Deerfield, IL; a brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Joan Mendelson of Phoenix, AZ, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Leah F. Mendelson, and a brother-in-law, Hyman Friedman.
Services: Friday, September 17, 2010, at 11:00 am in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rabbi Jon Kleinman officiating. Burial will be in Valley of Peace Cemetery.
Visitation: 5-7 pm - Thursday, September 16 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home
