William F. Abbott

William Frank Abbott, age 91, of 2130 Harrison, formerly of 1730 Harrison, Quincy, died Monday, November 29, 2010 at 10:45 pm in Blessing Hospital.

He was born February 11, 1919 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Earl W. and Erma Haxel Abbott. On August 31, 1941 he married Beverly Brockman in Montgomery City, Missouri. She preceded him in death on February 24, 1989.

Bill graduated from Quincy High School in 1937. He served in the Army Air Corps as a Technical Sergeant during World War II. He was employed by Gem City Transfer and Mayflower and retired as Traffic Manager for Meinhardt Cartage Company in 1984.

Bill was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served as an elder and as an usher. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and spending time with his friends and family.

Survivors include a son, William (Pat) Abbott of Decatur, IL; a daughter, Lee (Edwin) Soto of Fort Madison, IA; four grandchildren, William "Brock" (Beth) Abbott of Decatur, IL, Jason Saeger of Packwood, IA, and Abby and Corrie Saeger, both of Fort Madison; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley (Russ) Merkel of Quincy; a brother, Kenneth Abbott of Quincy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Mary Goessling and Joanne Reynolds.

Services: Friday, December 3, 2010 at 11:00 am in St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Marlin Rempfer officiating. Entombment will be in Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation: Friday, December 3, 2010 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church.

I know if you were here you would help me and give me advice, I still have your picture by my bed. I am a freshman now :D. I hope you are doing good in heaven. "My Grandpa was a great man. He could make anyone laugh whether they were mad or not. It is truly hard to live without him but I am living on and I am in the sixth grade. I hope you all bless him because he was the GREATEST GRANDPA I could ever have."
