Robert H. Long, age 88, of 2736 Midlan Ct., Quincy, died Thursday (Nov. 4, 2010) at 1:50 pm in Blessing Hospital.
He was born July 3, 1922 in Quincy, the son of Carl and Mae Niemann Long. On March 1, 1957 he married Pearl Bradley in Belleville, IL. She survives.
Robert was a 1940 Quincy High School graduate. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps in WWII from 1943-1946. He graduated from Bradley University in 1948 with an Engineering Degree. He was a regional engineer and land surveyor. He worked as a civil engineer for the Illinois Highway Department from 1948- 1980. He was the Superintendent of Highways for Calhoun County from 1980-1983 when he retired and moved back to Quincy.
Robert and Pearl were active square dancers and were members of the Silver Dollars and Q-City Squares. He was also a licensed Real Estate Broker. Robert especially loved his dog, Molly.
on addition to his wife, survivors include a brother - James Long and his wife Dodie of Quincy, and 15 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Richard, Sylvester and William A. Long.
Services: 1:30 pm Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Gary Long officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
