Mrs.Guida Elaine DeSutter, age 90, of Quincy, died Monday, November 7, 2011, at 6:10 p.m. in Good Samaritan Home.
Guida was born February 17, 1921 in Stonington, Illinois, the daughter of Chester and Grace Corzine Peabody She married Sylviere "Desi" M. DeSutter on July 1, 1943 in Woodhull, IL. He preceded her in death on May 19, 1987.
Guida and Desi began their life together working on the family farm in the Woodhull area. Later, the insurance business would bring them to Galesburg, Aledo, and Quincy.
She and Desi enjoyed traveling together. They were also both active in Marriage Encounter. Guida was involved in Aglow, Spirit Alive, Bible study, and Life in the Spirit seminars, where she gave talks regarding her personal spiritual growth. Guida's spirituality influenced others, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her, also had the opportunity to know and trust the Lord.
Guida was always a positive, happy, and loving wife, mother, daughter, and sister. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, and bird watching. However, golf and bowling were her favorite hobbies.
Her family will cherish the special memories of her with love in their hearts for the wonderful lady she was. They will always remember her sweet smile and bright countenance, which is now radiant in the presence of her Heavenly Father and his son Jesus. We love you!
Survivors include: four daughters: Nancy (Dave) Jordan of Monticello, IN; Marie (William) Ashmore of Quincy; Peggy DeSutter of Saint Louis, MO; and Phyllis (Bob) Sturdivant of Auburndale, FL; 11 grandchildren: Toni Kensinger of Fishers, IN; Tammara (Keith) Lehocky of Monticello, IN; Robin Anderson of Effingham, IL; Ashley (Craig) Budd and Fishers, IN; Kimberly Harvey of Quincy; Todd (Carolyn) Petersen of Champaign, IL; Troy Petersen of Kansas City, MO; Darron Morris of Walertown, NY; Kevin Morris of Sharon, PA; Denise (Steve) Elerbe of Auburndale, FL; and Jennifer Morris of Auburndale, FL; fourteen great grandchildren: Wesley Jordan; Chayse, Halston, Branson, Jordan, and Hunter Lehocky; Dalton and Parker Anderson; Jaxson Budd; Sage Meleney; Trinity Fasnacht; Philadelphia, Jacob, and Ali Morris; and five step-greatgrandchildren: Jacob and Ronny Elerbe and Rachel, Ryan, and Ross Kensinger.
In addition to her husband, Guida was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Carroll and Keith Peabody and a twin brother, Gordon Peabody.
Services: 10:00 am Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Rev. Dennis Thomas officiating.
Burial: Quincy Memorial Park, Quincy, Illinois
