Betty Cantrell, age 86, formerly of Payson and Pittsfield, died peacefully Thursday, December 15, 2011, at 10:08 pm in the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Liberty.
Betty was born May 3, 1925 in Atlas Township, Illinois, the daughter of Nicholas and Esther Rogers Schwandner. She married Ralph Cantrell on May 21, 1949 in Palmyra, MO. He preceded her in death on January 2, 1984.
She was a graduate of Quincy Beauty Academy. Betty attended Emmanuel Church of the Nazarene in Quincy and Pittsfield. She loved embroidery and traveling. Betty was an avid mushroom hunter and loved the outdoors. She had a great sense of humor and had the ability to make people laugh. She was a loving and caring mother, sacrificing much to raise her eight children. She also loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and put the needs of others before her own. Betty also never knew a stranger.
Survivors include: 7 children, Ed (Shari) Cantrell of New Berlin, IL, Loren (Susan) Cantrell of Jacksonville, IL, Karen (Dennis) Goodwin of Quincy, IL, Nick (Jill) Cantrell of Owasso, OK, Roger (Janet) Cantrell of Neosho, MO, Penny (Larry) Ormond of Liberty, IL, Terry (Sheryl) Cantrell of Broken Arrow, OK: a son-in-law, Lyndell Predmore of Stuart, FL; 23 grandchildren, Kelley (Chuck) Arnold, Tara (Ralph) Hydes, Keisa Ealey, Kenda Cantrell, Ryan Cantrell, Stephanie Cantrell, Chad (fiance' Cami) Cantrell, Leslie Gallagher, Robbie Gallagher, Nikki (Steve) Caldwell, J.D. (Angie) Goodwin, Shane' (Lucas) Blakely, Holly Cantrell, Sara (Trey) Smith, Amy Patton, Clint Cantrell, Carissa Bull, Troy (Karen) Ormond, Lance (Bridget) Ormond, Michelle (Greg) McMillan, Alexis (Jeremy) Partlow, Andrew Cantrell, and Ashlea Cantrell; 23 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Betty Predmore, and a grandson, Joseph Goodwin; one brother, George Schwandner, and 4 sisters, Elizabeth Daniels, Frances Norton, Imojean McCallister, Berdella Hayden.
Services: 11:00 am Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Dan Ormond and her son-in-law Larry Ormond officiating.
Burial: Samuel Taylor Cemetery, Rockport, Illinois
