Keith LuVerne Delap, age 91, of 2130 Harrison, Cottage 15A and formerly of 327 S. 12th St., Quincy died Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 8:35 p.m. in his residence.
He was born March 22, 1920 in Lexington, Nebraska the son of Conrad and Martha A. Lemme Delap. On August 7, 1948 he married Jean Hersman Lewis in Hersman, Illinois. She survives.
He attended Dawson County rural schools from grades one through eight, and he graduated from Lexington (Nebraska) High School. He received his B.A. from Hastings College and his Masters in Theology from McCormick Theological Seminary.
Mr. Delap was the pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Wood River, Nebraska from 1945 through 1952. From 1952 through 1960 he was the pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. He then moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where he was the pastor of Knox Presbyterian Church from 1960 through 1974. He spent the next four years as the pastor of Ellington and Burton Memorial Church in Quincy. Then in 1978, he served as the pastor of Castelar Street Presbyterian Church in Omaha, Nebraska until his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of the Fellowship of Reconciliation, the World Federalist Association, the Quincy Ministry Council (Area Presbytery Organization), the Quincy Symphony Chorus, and the Presbytery of Great Rivers. Mr. Delap volunteered as a chaplain at Blessing Hospital. He also volunteered at the Red Cross for adaptive aquatic therepy.He was privileged with three European tours, as well as family reunions in special retreat areas. He also enjoyed Apple Butter family gatherings at the Round Barn Farm in Clayton. These gatherings included events for funding the family scholarship fund.
Survivors include three children: Stephen Delap of Rockford, IL; Paula Delap-Padilla and her husband, Alex, of Albuquerque, NM; and David Delap and his wife, Beth Boschee, of Madison, WI; two granddaughters: Rachel and Celeste; and one great-granddaughter, Tara. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Donald Delap .
Service: Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in the Quincy Presbyterian Church (2525 Broadway) with the Rev. Mike Fitzsimmons officiating.
