Mary Elizabeth Schlembach

Mary Elizabeth 'Betty' Schlembach , age 90, of 2130 Harrison, died May 23, 2012, at 7:45 pm in Blessing Hospital.

Betty was born March 1, 1922 in Defiance, Ohio, the daughter of Frank and Clara Minck Lenhart.  She married John Edward Schlembach on June 25, 1946 in Treasure Island, CA.  He preceded her in death on January 15, 1980.

Betty was the second oldest of 12 children and grew up on the family farm.  She graduated from Jewell High School in Jewell, OH, in 1940.  She attended Defiance College for one year and continued her studies at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Toledo, OH.  She worked as a nurse in Toledo before her marriage.  Betty's husband was in the Navy and they were stationed in several bases around the U.S. and overseas.  She worked for the Department of Human Services in Springfield, IL, for 10 years.  She moved to Quincy to be near her grandchildren.  Betty had a very active social life and served on the Quincy Symphony Board and enjoyed helping with the Symphony of Trees.

Survivors include: three sons, John (Sue) Schlembach of Austin, TX;  Dave (Liz) Schlembach of Quincy, IL;   and Jim (Kay) Schlembach of Fairfax County, VA;  10 grandchildren, Julie Schlembach of Austin, TX;  Cathy Schlembach of Austin, TX;  Alice (Greg) Plutko of Glen Ellyn, IL;  Laura Schlembach of St. Louis, MO;  John  Schlembach of Houston, TX;  Becky Schlembach of Houston, TX;  Lisa Schlembach of Portland, OR;  Paul (Alexandra) Kutscha of Albany, NY;  Sam Kutscha of Richmond, VA; and Grace Schlembach of Fairfax County, VA;  a great-grandson, Andrew Lenhart Plutko of Glen Ellyn, IL;  seven sisters, Rita Brown of Defiance, OH;  Pat Folck of Angola, IN;  Susan (Bill) McIntyre of Monroe, MI;  Nancy (Dan) Ducatt of Defiance, OH;  Joan (Tom) Elberson of Defiance, OH;  Peggy (John) Bennett of Cincinnati, OH;  and Mary "Bunny" (Denny) Williams of Defiance, OH;  and three sisters-in-law, Virginia, Nancy and Emilie Lenhart;  and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents;  three brothers, Francis, Ben and Richard Lenhart;  a sister, June Small;  three brothers-in-law, Bill Small, Keith Folck and Homer Brown;  and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Lenhart.

Services: 11:30 am Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Fr. William Roeger officiating.

Inurnment: Arlington National Cemetery.

Visitation:  10:30 am - 11:30 am Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
