In loving memory of

Randa Schneider
December 5, 2012

Randa Gebran Manassa Schneider, age 61, of Quincy, made the transition to be with her heavenly father on Thursday, September 27, 2012, at 8:50 pm in her home after a long battle with cancer.

Randa was born November 7, 1950 in Tripoli, Lebanon , the daughter of Jubran and Odette Ghandour Manassah. She married Michael Schneider on August 15, 1981 in Quincy College Chapel, Quincy. He survives.

Randa came to the United States on a student visa in December of 1976, and after graduating from Quincy College in 1981 with a degree in art history, she went through the naturalization process to become a United States citizen. She worked for 19 years as a word processor in the chemistry department at the University of Missouri, St. Louis. She had been on "sabbatical" since returning to Quincy at the end of 1999.

Randa was an avid participant in using Facebook, and over the years was able to reconnect with many long-lost relatives and friends.  She had an active interest in genealogy and spent much time looking for ancestors on both sides of her family. She enjoyed making contact with other relatives with similar interests. Randa was well known in the family for her needlepoint (once winning a blue ribbon for an embroidered picture of the Virgin Mary) and cross-stitch. She was very interested in quilting and left several beautiful projects waiting to be completed. Many relatives and friends benefited from her skill with knitting needles and crochet. She enjoyed cooking, much to the delight of her husband, family, and friends.

Survivors in addition to her husband, Michael, include her mother, Odette Manassah, of Quincy; two brothers, Elias (Carol) Manassah, of Quincy, IL, Jiryes (Jo) Manassah of Coral Springs, FL; three nieces, Evanne (Jerry) Mast and great niece, Jordyn Mast of Quincy, Alisa (Jeremy) Sanders and great nephews, Jack and Tommy Sanders of Quincy, and Mary (Steven) Hobbs of Orlando, FL; a nephew, James Manassah of Coral Springs, FL; her mother-in-law, Mary Schneider of Hardin, sister-in-law, Mary Lee Schneider, Green Bay, WI, brothers-in-law, William (June) Schneider, Naperville, IL, Donald (Linda) Schneider of Springfield, IL, Charles (Kathy Doyle) Schneider, Florrisant, MO and John Scott Schneider, Alton, IL; a step-nephew, Chad (Elizabeth) Sloman and great nieces and nephews, Erin (Eric) Tucker, Kaitlyn, Alex and Logan Tucker, David Schneider. She was preceded in death by her father, Jubran, and her father-in-law, Donald Schneider.

Services: 9:00 am Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Livesay officiating. Burial will follow at St. Norbert's Church Cemetery, Hardin, IL, where many relatives on Michael's side of the family are interred.

"Mike, Mrs. Manassah and all the Manassah family, you have my deepest condolences. I will never forget Randa, I was thrilled when we reconnected on face book after so many years back in Friends School. She did not remember me at first because we only shared a class room for one year. She proved to be a wonderful friend and sister. I am one of those lucky people that was gifted a shawl that she crocheted for me and a bunch of baby clothes for my grand baby from her beautiful mother. I will treasure it for the rest of my life. Thank you baby for being a true dear friend. You will definitely always be in my heart. May you rest in peace."

"I remember how quiet Randa was at first at Schneider-McDonald clan gatherings when she and Mike got engaged, and then she blasted away people's impressions of her when she got more than a little tipsy as family went bar-hopping after a wedding in Springfield, revealing that she could be a funny, flirty "party girl." She and Mike visited me in Louisiana several times for Mardi Gras in the '80s and '90s, and she was always a joy to be around."
