Charles W. Hermann, age 94, formerly of 4922 Lake Ridge Drive, died Saturday, October 13, 2012, at 6:30 am in Bickford Cottage.
Charles was born April 6, 1918 in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Walter George and Wilhelmina Boehl Hermann. On Oct 9, 1942, he married Edwina Pendleton. She preceded him in death April 17, 2004.
Charles was a 1936 graduate of Quincy High School and he attended Quincy College. Charles served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War Two, rising to the rank of Captain with the 100th Bomb Group of the 350th Bomber Squadron.
Charles and his brother, Tony, owned and operated Hermann Jewelers at 631 Maine Street for 23 years. He was a member of Union United Methodist Church, Herman Lodge #39 A.F. & A.M., and Quincy Consistory.
Survivors include two children, Charles 'Kim' (Gail) Hermann of Quincy, and Rhonda (John) Basinger of Quincy; four grandchildren, Matthew (Shannon) Hermann of Harrisburg, PA, Catherine (Matt) Hermann Littell of Chicago, IL, Eric (Kelley) Basinger of Quincy, and Jennifer (T.J.) Basinger Stephenson of Quincy; and five great grandchildren, Jeffrey Cole, Cody and Caden Stephenson, and Charles and Riley Hermann.
In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Sandra Hermann, his sister Florence Grosclaude and three brothers Donald, Wilbert "Bud" and Arthur "Tony" Hermann.
Services: Monday (Oct 15, 2012) at 2:00 pm in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev Robert Morwell officiating.
Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinios
Visitation: 12:00 to 2:00 pm Monday at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home
